Lawn Maintenance Equipment

Lawn maintenance requires a few select tools that will get your gardening tasks done. Selecting the right equipment for your lawn largely depends on your needs. But whatever tools you choose, you should first invest in the basics.

The most important tool for a typical lawn is the lawn mower. When selecting a lawn mower, take note of its effects on your power consumption, it's cost, it's body weight, and how easy it is to use and maintain. You can select a gas-powered mower or an electric one. Electric mowers tend to be quieter, and they don't produce harmful emissions. However, the length of an electric mower's power cord limits the area it covers.

Another important tool is a watering tool for your lawn. You can purchase a watering can, a hose, or a sprinkler. Watering cans work best for very small lawns, while sprinklers are great for medium sized lawns. Larger lawns will benefit from installed sprinkler systems that work together. A hose can work just as well, especially if installed with sprinkler/shower nozzles.

You should also have a rake in your tool shed. Rakes are used to even out the ground and remove thatching, extra mulch, and dead leaves. Metal rakes are best used when you want to move or even out soil. Wire rakes can be used for scraping away lighter materials such as lawn clippings.

Shovels, spades, and hoes are extra tools that will aid in your lawn maintenance tasks. Hoes are great for removing weeds, while shovels and spades are used for digging out or scooping large quantities of soil or fertilizer. These tools are available in both short or long handles. Short-handled tools are best for smaller jobs, so you must consider the size of your lawn when selecting these tools.
