Scale Insects or Coccoidea

Scale Insects are very small insects that are parasites of many plants and a very difficult problem to have as their small size makes them hard to detect and exterminate. These insects are also known as Coccoidea.CoccoideaCoccoidea

These pests are parasites of many plants and fees on the natural sap that plants produce. Once Coccoidea insects find a plant, they usually become immobile and fees off the plant for the remainder of their life. Apart from their small size, adult scale insects can be especially tough to exterminate has they are often invulnerable to pesticides due to their covering. Pesticides are often only effective against young scale insects who have not yet developed their coating but these insects are always moving and thus can be difficult to detect.

Horticultural oil, which is used as an effective way to exterminate many other common insects, can also be used effectively in controlling scale insect infestation. This oil suffocates and eventually kills these insects so that they do not reproduce. Soapy water has also been proven as an effective way to deal with these pests, and is also the most convenient and cost effective method of dealing with scale insects. Pesticides can be used although I discourage their use in this case as they are very ineffective and they can prove damaging to your lawn and garden. In this case, organic methods of prevention and extermination are the best ways to handle this problem.

Scale insects have caused many problems for many homeowners and are not limited to any geographical location. If you believe that your lawn or garden may be infested with scale insects, it is strongly recommended that you use the methods described above to eliminate them as quickly as possible.
